Careful What You Wish For
After a bit of scouting over the wall, the group enters the lost city of Kakura, the once great capital city of the Kasan Empire. They are likely the first living beings to enter this city a millennia. As they enter they quickly realize they are in a graveyard on the edge of the city as Yuan-ti zombies begin bursting from the group. A few rounds into fighting these creatures shows there seems to be no end to how many will rise. In an attempt to regroup and present a united front they all head for the church on the other side of the cemetery. Team work, and some powerful cleric magic, gets everyone safely into the church where it seems the undead cannot enter.
Hallowed Ground
It turns out the church is dedicated to Saisho-no-hebi, the great creator of the Yuan-ti. The group finds a religious text from which they learn the Yuan-ti creation story as well as a jeweled holy symbol of the creator. They also find another exit that takes them into the city, away from the cemetery and zombie threat. Stealthy Myrnin scouts ahead and notes that while this place is not safe, there seems to be no immediate threat up ahead.
A Glimpse of the Past
As the group moves through the city toward the castle in the distance it begins to grow late in the day. They turn their attention to finding something approximating shelter that they can use for the evening. They find a home that is intact enough to serve their purpose and set themselves up for the evening.
In investigating the home they find several items that shed some light on the city's history. The first is a portrait that appears to be of the home's inhabitants, a Yuan-ti couple, Kenji and Yuto Oban. Kenji is seems was a Gashiri or officer in the Kasan military. The group also finds a letter, written by Kenji, to Tentara, a Pandaren ally. It seems the Emperor is in the grips of madness but there is a resistance forming within the city. Kenji is reaching out to the Pandaren people as allies, though it appears his letter was never sent.
In the bedroom, the group finds a letter written to Kenji by Yuto. It seems Kenji sent Yuto away to stay with family given the danger of mounting a resistance against a mad Emperor and his corrupt Guntai (Generals).
No One is Safe
That night, as the group tries to sleep, so close to the source of the dread, everyone has fitful sleep punctuated by terrible dreams. While some share what they see, others are more cagey about the details. Either way, it seems the evil of this place is intent on tormenting the living with visions of painful memories or terrible futures.
