Friends Old and New
After liberating the town of Northpoint, the party decides to return to Cothrom with Scian and Bluud in tow. While Bluud was originally heading to Treascair to meet with a contact of Scian's, it seems the group is a better lead for him as they have direct experience with vampiric incursions.
On the way back to town they are ambushed by a Fomorian in the middle of the night. Amérre is cursed during the fight with a deformation. Fortunately, after a night's sleep she is able to recover fully. The following night they are attacked by two Hell Hounds. After the eventful trip, they arrive back in Cothrom in the early afternoon.
Back in town they head to Sual's where they hear from Annabel that Leanna is set to marry Antonin Neviny, the noble from Severni. She notes that Baz seems happy with this decision. Later Myrnin arrives with a new mission from Baz. He'd like the group to head to Safaga, a city on the continent of Silvarum, to recruit someone known as The General.
Baz has booked the group passage on the merchant ship The Dawn's Promise. Amérre has heard about this ship and its crew from Scian who was previously a member. Sual also knows the crew from their many trips to Cothrom. The group sets out to retrieve some items to make good use of their copious downtime on the long voyage before calling it a night.
Setting Sail
The next morning the group heads to the docks first thing to meet the ship's first mate, Bones. He is a half-orc with tattoos covering his entire torso which Arbin discovers are magical. While meeting Bones Amérre notices a familiar symbol on his necklace which Arbin identifies as the symbol of the Halfing Goddess, known as the Star of the Sea. This symbol likely marks him as having been adopted by Halflings as a child. Bones tells the crew to join the twins in their boat to head out to the Promise.
The twins turn out to be Kith and Karg, brother and sister Goblins. Kith is bubbly and introduces herself and her sullen brother to the group. They row the group out to the Promise where they eventually meet Captain Avery Vane. He's a flamboyant man wearing a wide hat, frilly shirt, and long jacket. The group notices there is something odd about his appearance that suggests he's not actually human but they can't quite place it.
The first few days are quiet but the calm doesn't last long. Later on the third day the group is attacked by two Chuul's, crab-like aberrations that are attracted to magic. The group, seasoned fighters, work together with the crew to dispatch the creatures. During the battle the crew proves themselves to also be quite capable, displaying several magical feats of their own.
